Food trends are a constant variable in the marketplace and a throttle for new product development. I am always reading surveys and major industry publications to gather ideas for the next flavor sensation. This year, much to my delight as a Registered Dietitian and vegetarian, is the continued upward movement of plant-based diets, something I have been preaching for years!
A plant-based diet is not a diet geared toward weight loss, rather a life-style for a healthier body and planet emphasizing minimally processed foods, whole plants such as grains, nuts, & fruit. Scientific research as outlined in the book, The China Study, reveals the health benefits particularly in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and many cancers.
Oats are a good source of plant-based protein, soluble fiber, and zinc.
I believe in a plant-based lifestyle for a healthier you. It takes some planning but remember the old saying, “Anything worth something takes work”. Enjoy!
